Our passion here at Team FireTruck is hard core four wheel driving… and competing in rockcrawling competitions around Australia. We’ve been wheeling some of the hardest trails, and competing in a variety of events around the country for quite a few years now… and we’re just getting started!
Team FireTruck formed late in 2004 with our sites pinned on all terrain style events such as Woodpecker, Nissan Trials, and Tuff Truck. These competitions combine a variety of four wheel driving obstacles and conditions which require a wide range of skills and equipment. From a near vertical rock wall, to a waste deep mud hole, to a wrecked car – events combine both natural and man-made obstacles to push teams to the limits of traction and gravity.
We started competing in 2004 in a flame red ’97 Jeep TJ, dubbed the ‘FireTruck’. In 2006 we retired our trusty friend, and embarked on a new project… and the FireBug was born. The FireBug is an unlimited class rockcrawling buggy, designed to take on the Oz Rock and WE Rock rockcrawling series’ in Australia and beyond.
Rockcrawling is an extreme 4×4 motorsport, showcasing extreme purpose built vehicles (typically called ‘buggies’) designed to scale vertical rock walls, drive at mind boggling off-camber angles, and turn on a dime with plenty of wheel spin and rollovers to keep the spectators on the edge of their seats.
Teams of 2 (driver and spotter) tackle short courses consisting of a series of obstacles designed to push the team and their vehicles to their limits of skill and bravery. Events typically span 2 days, and can be on natural or man made courses.
Rockcrawling is enjoying strong growth in Australia as crowds and competitors alike discover the thrill of hard core four wheel driving. Most events are laid out with spectators in mind, and there is something for the entire family. The competition calendar is filling out, as more and more events pop up around Australia.
